Periodic paralyses are disorders characterized by episodes of muscle paralysis. They are divided into primary (hereditary) and secondary (acquired) forms caused by gene mutations encoding muscle membrane channel proteins. Primary periodic paralyses are classified based on affected ion channels and associated complications, including hyperkalemic periodic paralysis, hypokalemic periodic paralysis, and Andersen’s syndrome.
